Noelani Goodyear-kaʻŌpuaSecretary
Dr. Noelani Goodyear-Kaʻōpua has dedicated her career to Hawaiian education and aloha ʻāina. A professor of political science for 20 years, she now serves as the interim director of the Hawaiʻi Papa O Ke Ao Native Hawaiian Place of Learning Advancement Office for the UH System. She has been a board member of Kānehūnāmoku Voyaging Academy since KVA set out on an independent course from its original partner, Hālau Kū Māna. Noe is also on the boards of the Kamehameha Schools and MAʻO Organic Farms. Noelani’s research has involved documenting, analyzing and proliferating the ways people transform imperial and settler colonial relations through Indigenous political values and initiatives. Her books include The Seeds We Planted: Portraits of a Native Hawaiian Charter School, A Nation Rising: Hawaiian Movements for Life, Land and Sovereignty, and Nā Wāhine Koa: Hawaiian Women for Sovereignty and Demilitarization. She is the co-author and co-host of Without Apologies, a narrative, biographical podcast about Dr. Haunani-Kay Trask.
William (Billy) Richards

Billy Richards has dedicated much of his life to voyaging, serving as a crew member on Hōkūleʻa's inaugural 1976 voyage and many major voyages that followed, including the Voyage of Rediscovery and Mālama Honua Worldwide Voyage. Billy has lived a life of service to his community, making impact through both his various public service jobs and through his role on several Native Hawaiian and education based boards, including Kānehūnāmoku Voyaging Academy. He continues to support the growth of the waʻa community through his leadership with Friends of Hōkūleʻa and Hawaiʻiloa, and Ohana Waʻa, helping strengthen connections among voyaging and canoe organizations across the world.

Caleana (Noelani) Duffey-SpikesVice President
Noelani Duffey-Spikes was born and raised in Papakōlea and is a graduate of Hālau Kū Māna Public Charter School and the University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science. A longtime member of the ʻōhana waʻa, she has been involved with Hawaiian voyaging since 2001, sailing aboard Makaliʻi and helping launch Kānehūnāmoku. She previously served as Project Coordinator for Kānehūnāmoku Voyaging Academy, building partnerships that advanced Hawaiian culture, education, and youth engagement. Noelani currently serves as a federal Training Coordinator supporting nine U.S. Navy commands. She brings with her the commitment to education, leadership, and the perpetuation of Hawaiian voyaging traditions.
