JOB DESCRIPTION - Crew/Instructor (CI)
The CI works in a team environment and assists the Captain and Crew Leader in the daily operational tasks of the organization. CI’s are participants in programming and will learn how to use curriculum materials to teach students, learn canoe maintenance tasks, and assist in the preparation of materials used for instruction. Crew members also have a working knowledge of boating safety and sailing and are able to instruct students in safety procedures.
Hours are normally 8:00am-4:00pm Monday -Friday but occasionally there will be a 7:30am start time. Annually we have overnight camps, opportunities for travel, and events that require evening or weekend hours.
Duties and responsibilities
● Follows all boating safety regulations and teaches safety techniques and practices to the students.
● Assists Captain in sailing the canoe.
● Learn and assist in dry dock and canoe maintenance techniques.
● Assist in communications with staff, teachers, and students.
● Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
● Must be at least 18 or older.
● Must be eligible to obtain a driverʻs license.
● High school diploma or equivalent.
● Certified or willing to get certified in first aid, CPR, and lifeguarding
Working conditions
Work is “on-demand” and must sometimes be performed at night and over the weekend. Work is sometimes done outdoors and includes some work with children considered “high-risk”.
Physical requirements
Job is physically demanding, requiring the employee to be in good physical shape in order to stand, walk, crouch, and lift heavy objects.
