​The Hoa Mau program aims to train individuals to be waʻa (canoe) practitioners.
Those interested in becoming a waʻa practitioner for the
purpose of teaching and perpetuating voyaging and navigation.

The Hoa Mau is a two leveled training program,
​haumana is the first level and ʻaukai is the second level.
Haumana will learn
History of modern day voyaging
Traditional stories of voyaging 
Kānehūnāmoku protocols and chants 
Hawaiian and Micronesian Star Compass 
Canoe sailing and seamanship  
The teaching styles and techniques Kānehūnāmoku Voyaging Academy (KVA) uses to instruct Kānehūnāmoku trainees/students
ʻAukai will continue to learn
​
As an ʻAukai you will deepen and strengthen your understanding  of all that you learned during the Haumana training. The history, traditional stories, protocols, chants, basic navigation, canoe sailing, seamanship, the teaching styles and techniques of KVA. 
To learn more about the ʻaukai opportunities,
you may complete the Hoa Mau Haumana training program
or contact the Hoa Mau program coordinator, Malanai.
