Kū Paʻa Mau
Internship​

The Kū Paʻa Mau internship aims to train interns to be waʻa (canoe) practitioners.  Interns will undergo sail training on our waʻa and shadow Kānehūnāmoku crew teaching. Participants will work in teams and independently to build the foundational skills needed to be confident in sharing the knowledge they have gained in formal and community based education settings for the purpose of perpetuating voyaging and navigation.

Position Description
  • Internship location: Kaʻalaea, Oahu
  • All program dates for cohort 1: March 14 - May 20, 2022
  • Mandatory Training March 14-16
  • Graduation Ceremony 3 days in December (TBD)
  • Every Friday 8:00am - 4:00pm 
    • Dates: 3/25, 4/1, 4/8, 4/22, 4/29, 5/6, 5/13, 5/20
  • Add one flex 8hr day to fit your schedule
Benefits: 
  • Compensation - $15 hour rate
  • Travel to Koʻa Holomoana (Hawaii island) for graduation ceremony for three days in December (TBD)
  • Potential employment opportunities post completion of program
  • 160 hours of training​
  • No health benefits included

Applicants must:
  • Be available to work every Friday, and one other day of the week (your choice of day)
  • Able to work the entire 10 week session, March to May
  • Be at least 18 years of age by 1/1/22
  • US citizen or work visa required
  • Have your own housing and transportation
  • Physically able to do the tasks required
  • Pass a background check 
  • Fully vaccinated for Covid-19 or willing to test weekly (DOE requirement)
